I’m not quite sure what this expression is all about …

Oh, wait, that’s right, he spied a peacock … and now he’s mimicing it … did I mention he was born on Turkey Day?

You want me to be whaatt? Okay, not a serious expression … but I’ll take it …

“Alrighty, that’s it, let’s go …” … and we were clearly done for the evening.

Maybe the next time I drag him out for a mini portrait session I can hope for some serious shots

Okay, so he’s clearly not a kid anymore, but with eight years between us age-wise, I’m having a very hard time adjusting to the fact that my little brother isn’t little or a kid anymore.  Actually I’ve had a hard time adjusting to that fact since people started thinking he was the older of the two of us … I can handle people thinking we’re twins (we look enough alike), but that my baby brother is older than me … not so much!

So … on one of the few weekend evenings I was able to nab him (since his employer or one of his many friends seem to claim his weekends now), I made him stand in front of the camera so I could capture him for some ‘almost 21 year old’ portraits.

No one believes he’s a goof because he’s so serious at school (well, after his playground Elvis impersonation stint at Bel Air) and work …

Huh? Reference this image from a few weeks ago. This was about 15 seconds later when I asked him to be serious instead.

Forget serious … I give up. I got ninja instead. Senior portraits in Fall 2006, he wouldn’t be his goofy self. Now, after testing numerous locations and ideas, I plead for serious.

Would you believe that he use to have naturally curly light blonde hair? He did … women and girls alike loved it …

And, yes, today is his 21st birthday … so please leave him some birthday love. He seems to think no one loves him (apparantly his older sister no longer counts) … so please prove him wrong Especially as his employer scheduled him to work from Saturday through tomorrow with only yesterday (Monday) off — yes, he had to work tonight too

Meet JC the flamingo. She came with my new Hipslip (laptop bag/case from Shootsac, more on that later!), so I thought it was fitting to have Robby pose with her in his cap and gown. 

And now for the ceremony — Dr. Doug Curran (pictured below) was the commencement speaker and President Glendon Forgey gave a short speech in Japanese that (along with the rest of the ceremony) was streamed via the TVCC website so the exchange students’ families would feel welcomed even though they are half a world away.

And — behind the scenes was one of ROLP’s 2008 clients and a former coworker of mine, Michael (his wife Melinda was there as well — she was seated with all of the instructors and professional staff). I’m sure he’s gonna stop talking us up to everyone once he sees I posted the only shot I managed to snag of him that wasn’t blocked by the video camera!

Finally,  a farewell from the graduating Cardettes …

I love the flare coming off the guitar … this is one of two guitars Hannah had with her (along with a French Horn)

Just couldn’t decide which I love better — the color or the b/w version. Went with b/w for the sneak peek since I haven’t posted any in b/w yet!

It’s the unexpected moments like this one that I’ve come to love about portraiture photography. With little ones especially, you never know what to expect — and sometimes they turn out to be some of the most priceless and treasured images years from now.

Twenty years ago today — at 8:58 pm — my life forever changed.

I went from being an only child to becoming an older sister to a twerky — I mean, little brother on my eighth Thanksgiving. Thus the twerky reference (twirp + turkey combined).

Sometimes that’s good, sometimes it’s not as good. Mostly good, now that my knees aren’t practice for his ninja turtle and power ranger moves and he’s not using me as a teething ring.

So … because I can, I decided to broadcast to the entire world (well, the part that has internet access!) his birthday … I’d link you to Robby’s personal blog so you could all wish him a happy 20th, but he hasn’t gotten with the program yet.
