April & Brody | Colorado Destination Engagement Photography

April is one of my dearest friends — has been for the last seven years! I’ve watched her go through so many ups and downs over the last few years, so when she told me that her and Brody were talking about marriage, I was ecstatic to see her so happy. Last Friday, April and Brody made their commitment to one another official, and while I couldn’t be there for their nuptials, I’m so very honored to have captured their engagement portraits while I was in Colorado several weeks ago. Here’s just a few of my favorites!

Image on the right — that faint outline of a mountain over Brody’s left shoulder is Pikes Peak!

Last year, my mother told me she wanted portraits of her and my father for their 30th anniversary. And so I complied. However, as one image gives away, my father wasn’t the most cooperative of subjects … so we tried again this year, with the stipulation that he wasn’t allowed to do four simple things: (1) talk while the camera was covering my face, (2) ask how his hair (i.e. sideburns) looked, (3) wear his baseball cap, or (4) raise that stinkin eyebrow to crack me up and thus ruin a perfectly composed shot. He failed at the last two …

The results …

Updated to add … wasn’t liking how the black & white version looked on an uncalibrated monitor, so here’s the color version!

*sigh* the hat … at least it matches the train car …

I haven’t a clue what she’s looking at (on the left), I think she snuck a peek at some of the photography blogs I visit (for some posing inspiration) ;) On the right, he’s watching the birds fly over!

Just a little over a year ago, Hannah appeared here on the blog … last year we went for a rocker/musician-esque styled session held down in Central Texas. This year — vintage-esque rural …

Other than a defog/sharpening tweak, this image is SOOC. And one of several that I was quite giddy about (I have two witnesses to that fact) …

Michal | Athens Texas Portrait Photography

I think this is one of my favorite shoots to date … Michal’s outfit combined with the rural setting and just before sunset … I could get used to sessions like this!

It was quite the windy day but it actually worked well for several of the ideas I had in mind …

I’m thinking if Michal gets tired of grad school, modeling is a definite alternative …

… why does this one feel like a magazine ad to me? Along with Michal is Hannah (who’ll appear here on the blog later this month) and my business mascot who crashed the session.

Leigh and Jerald were my first two clients after I ‘opened the doors’ to ROLP (the predecessor to CMP) in 2007. I photographed their surprise (to them) 30th anniversary party and vow renewal ceremony. So, not long after their most recent anniversary we met up bright and early to capture them again in a more casual setting!

Loving the lens flare lately — this is another 8 am session that made it possible!

This was actually supposed to be of just Michael and Melinda, but Tristan decided to crash the shot

Ah, yes, some more outtakes from Robby’s ‘almost 21′ portraits last month … because he won’t be serious for me anymore!

I’m not quite sure what this expression is all about …

Oh, wait, that’s right, he spied a peacock … and now he’s mimicing it … did I mention he was born on Turkey Day?

You want me to be whaatt? Okay, not a serious expression … but I’ll take it …

“Alrighty, that’s it, let’s go …” … and we were clearly done for the evening.

Maybe the next time I drag him out for a mini portrait session I can hope for some serious shots

21 years that this kiddo has been a part of my life?!??!!?

Okay, so he’s clearly not a kid anymore, but with eight years between us age-wise, I’m having a very hard time adjusting to the fact that my little brother isn’t little or a kid anymore. Actually I’ve had a hard time adjusting to that fact since people started thinking he was the older of the two of us … I can handle people thinking we’re twins (we look enough alike), but that my baby brother is older than me … not so much!

So … on one of the few weekend evenings I was able to nab him (since his employer or one of his many friends seem to claim his weekends now), I made him stand in front of the camera so I could capture him for some ‘almost 21 year old’ portraits.

No one believes he’s a goof because he’s so serious at school (well, after his playground Elvis impersonation stint at Bel Air) and work …

Huh? Reference this image from a few weeks ago. This was about 15 seconds later when I asked him to be serious instead.

Forget serious … I give up. I got ninja instead. Senior portraits in Fall 2006, he wouldn’t be his goofy self. Now, after testing numerous locations and ideas, I plead for serious.

Would you believe that he use to have naturally curly light blonde hair? He did … women and girls alike loved it …

And, yes, today is his 21st birthday … so please leave him some birthday love. He seems to think no one loves him (apparantly his older sister no longer counts) … so please prove him wrong Especially as his employer scheduled him to work from Saturday through tomorrow with only yesterday (Monday) off — yes, he had to work tonight too
