… I’m gonna break these chains …
To say I’m glad its Sunday is an understatement this week … I’ve spent the last week physically and mentally exhausted. I’ve turned the computer off as early as 8:30 most of this last week (Wednesday being the one exception) and curled up in bed with a book for an hour or two since my ability to function otherwise was for naught.
So … to make up for taking some much needed down time – and to answer for anyone else who’s not inquired via email, here’s the answers for a few ‘somewhat frequently asked questions’ as of late …
— Some have wondered why I haven’t mentioned much about Robby’s take at sessions since the spring. Well, his other employer dominates his weekend hours when all of the sessions are scheduled — so if you happen to be grocery shopping, he may be the one taking your groceries out now
As a result, he hasn’t been able to assist or second shoot since the end of April. And yes, I really do miss having him an assistant/second shooter — but I have fewer images to edit as a result!
— While I’m nearing the end of the sessions booked prior to the holiday cutoff/deadline, I do have a limited number of session openings later this month and in December for those who’ve inquired; however, galleries and orders are not guaranteed in time for Christmas when editing time/gallery launch and printer/lab turnaround are factored in.
— In addition to shooting holiday sessions, editing, and everything else responsibility-wise, I’m also revamping and preparing a lot of new (or improved) things for 2010 behind the scenes. Some may become obvious in the next several weeks as I restructure the website, tweak pages, and update outdated information. I’ve been working my way from the top down (or bottom up) on every aspect in front of and behind the camera. Right now I dedicate as many hours per week to CMP as I do at my full time job, but for significantly less in return. One of these days I would like to make CMP my only job … thus, my goal is to work smarter, not harder in 2010!
— Along the lines of working smarter, not harder … for those who’ve asked for advice on starting out in photography business-wise, these three photographers (here, here , and here) have put it better than I am able to and are a great starting point for working smart from the get-go. A lot of their trials are similar to mine and I’m combining the lessons I’ve learned with their’s on the projects I have in progress. For the curious, on average, it takes five years for a photography business to make a profit. Yes, five years.
— For those who’ve asked if I’d give lessons in how to properly use their cameras or how to take better pictures for fun, I truely lack the down time to dedicate to doing this in the way/format I’d like to right now. If there is more demand/interest for this than I realize (aka you are interested), then let me know. If enough people express an interest and are willing to commit, I might consider offering a small group ‘workshop/seminar’ on a Saturday or Sunday during summer 2010 (a small fee would be assessed).
— and, last, but certainly not least, for those who’ve oogled the samples of the Luxe Boutique items online, there will be an opportunity for you to view them in person in the near future … full details coming on Friday![]()
